The Source is the s o u r c e of my problems!
Written by Anonymous Staff Reporter
Yes, just one more quarter till the end of the year. Honestly, I’m glad that this year is coming to a close, but one thing that I believe the student body all agrees on, is that sometimes the Source, well in the simplest terms, doesn’t help, and I’m torn in the middle. For some students in Franklin, it kind of grinds their gears.
It is said that the Source’s sole purpose was to help the student body keep up with their grades and manage all their assignments and blah dedi blah. Though there are students here that can tell you otherwise, there are many things that could be improved with the Source. Let us begin with the teachers.
I have gathered information and found out that the Source site management team sends out updates about the features of the source and how teachers could better improve their management of keeping up with grades and class pages. What if I can tell you that these emails and messages were completely ignored? We all know that teachers have lives outside of school, some are too completely buried in work and some just don’t get paid enough to give that “extra mile”.
Another GIGANTIC problem with the is source that it needs to be updated, CONSTANTLY, not every month, not every 2 weeks, but ideally 3 or 5 days.
Sean Ibarrientos said, “It gets even worse near the end of quarters. I hear stories of friends that have an A on Thursday and then an N on Friday. I mean what’s the point of having the source it if ends up totally being pointless. It scares me to think it could possibly happen to me.”
There have been instances in which parents check the Source. There, the parents see the un-updated information listing the grades we had days or even weeks ago, and being blamed for not working enough in school. An Anonymous Senior explained, “I constantly have my mom breathing down my back asking if I ever found that missing assignment or asking why I got a failing grade in Language Arts, she thinks she’s all funny saying that ‘You speak ENGLISH, how can you fail that class!’ It honest just gives me more stress to deal with”.
Attendance is also one of the major problems with the source as there are absences and tardies that weren’t removed after bringing in a note. “I remember one time that I wasn’t absent on a certain day, I even have the work to prove I was there, but why on the source does it says that I was absent.” said the anonymous Senior.
“Once my dad was so paranoid that I was skipping class that he came down to the school and actually talked to Ms. Green, my counselor, and tried to get some information onwhether or not I was skipping. Someone in the attendance office probably messed something up or something. Till this day my dad thinks I skipped.” said Maryross Olanday.
There have been so many inconsistencies with the source, that it just add so much stress on to the average student. It’s hard enough be a teenager, but its even harder to look at a page with all your bad grades on.
Finally third, the potential of the source is still untouched. There are so many uses to the source. There have been teachers that post up assignments or other necessities that could help students get more of an understanding to what they are learning in class. Also they could possibly post links that could give more a little more information on what they are learning and give an insight to what could be possibly coming up next week.
Over all the issue about the source directly relates to the fact that it needs to be constantly updated. Easy Grade Pro, which is the program all Franklin teachers use, is direct tied to the source. Why don’t all the teachers just update their grades?
Junior Glory Vasario said, “If it was always updated, it would benefit the school and probably stop most of the grade grubbers always wondering what grade that they have. It is understandable to know that maybe some teachers are too busy focusing on other things.”
This needs to stop and all the teachers need to update the source more constantly. The teachers need to make sure that they know which student was in their class or not and/or each student should be responsible in reminding their teacher to update the Source.
With this all said and done, hopefully there might be a change next year or possibly this year. You know what they say “change takes time”.
