A Summer Guide for the Troubled

By Victoria Luong

School is out and summer has begun, but what is there to do? You don’t want to be sitting on that couch watching TV do you? NO! You want the most memorable summer, so that means you’ve got to get out and do something. Like every other summer, many students plan out what they want to do. Some will chill with their friends or family, but many don’t know what they’re doing for the summer.
Sophomore Michelle Perez, said, “My plans this summer are to go out and enjoy the sun, kick it whenever I get the chance, and basically to just have fun!”

A reason why students don’t know what to do in the summer is because they don’t know the festivities in Seattle. Junior Breyanna Atherton said, “Seattle is wack! It’s way too boring here. All I look forward to are the many parties…that’s always crackin’!”

Seattle can be boring, but look on the bright side there are events to look forward to. “This summer, I’m really looking forward to the Bite and Bumbershoot. It should be fun. I think those are mainly what people go for in the summer,” says junior Johnny Saechao.

The Bite and Bumbershoot are two examples out of many festivities. There are many other things you could do such as the Torchlight Parade, Seattle Music Fest, Pista, and other festivals.

Do you have something to add to that summer calendar of yours? Hope you do, but if you’re really not interested in festivities, there are other alternatives. Do you enjoy movies? Well, there are many movies coming out this summer that are sure to be huge.

Movies to look out for are:

  1. Transformers,July 4th
  2. License to Wed, July 4th
  3. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, July 13th
  4. 1408, July 13th
  5. Hair Spray, July 20th
  6. I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, July 20th
  7. The Simpsons Movie, July 27th
  8. I know who killed me, July 27th
  9. Who’s your caddy, July 27th
  10. Bourne Ultimatum, August 3rd
  11. Rush Hour 3, August 10th
  12. Good Luck Chuck, August 24th
  13. Balls of Fury, August 31st

Although, watching a movie in a theater is an obvious, try something new; go to a drive-in theater. Its fun, inexpensive, and you can bring your own food.

Other than movies, other things you could do are:

  1. going to the beach
  2. host a BBQ
  3. attend parties
  4. dance in the clubs
  5. camp in the wild
  6. swim at Wild Waves
  7. watch sports games
  8. attend concerts
  9. just take a walk and enjoy the sun.

Attending these amazing festivities will sure bring in excitement for summer. Be sure to bring along your friends or even family, it makes it even more enjoyable! Save these dates:

  1. Seattle Chamber Music Society Summer Festival

July 3-27 @ Lakeside School

  1. Chinatown- International District Summer Festival

July 14-15 @ Hing Hay Park

  1. Bite of Seattle

July 20-22 @ Seattle Center

  1. Torchlight Parade

July 28 @ Seattle Center-Downtown, Seattle

  1. Seattle Music Fest

August 10-12 @ Alki Beach

  1. Bumbershoot Festival

Just don’t sit at home doing completely nothing. There are many ideas out there. You just have to do it. So there should be no excuse of why your summer is such a bore. Have fun, enjoy, relax, and of course stay safe! Have a great summer Quakers!!!
