SECURITY: The Mission of the Seattle Public Schools Security Department is to promote and enforce the "no tolerance for violence" policy; serve and protect all district personnel, students, and visitors during regular school hours and at after school events; and, on a 24 hour basis, protect all District property by monitoring fire and intrusion alarms for all District sites, thus providing a safe and secure educational environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Franklin High School Security staff adheres to the District Mission Statement. One of our most important priorities is to provide our students with a safe, healthy, and secure learning environment. Each Security Specialist takes this responsibility seriously, and is committed to providing a safe and secure school for our students.

In Seattle all secondary schools have Security Specialists. The size of the school and the number of students assigned to a school determines the number of Security Specialists assigned to that school. Franklin currently has four Security Specialists: Mr. Jason Kerr, Ms. Rose Bumgarner, Mr. Michael Dixon, and Mr. Jeremy Beckwith. Security Specialist are on duty each school day from 7:00am until 3:30pm. Students and staff are always welcome during these hours to report anything that may concern them. Security services are also provided for all after school events such as dances, sports games, plays etc. There is also an after hour security/tip line that is monitored 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Concerns/tips may be reported anonymously if the caller chooses.

At Franklin we are proactive. We have knowledge of Safety and Security practices and procedures, investigative techniques, and the law enforcement process for juveniles. Being familiar with the campus and community, developing a positive rapport with students and staff, listening to rumors and following up on them, and promoting the school district's anonymous tip line (206 252-0707) are all part of our practical day to day activities.

A member of the FHS Security team may be reached at 206-252-6285.

Student Intervention Team (SIT) Services: A SIT is a collaboration of school personnel (psychologist, counselor, administrator, regular education and special education teachers, and the nurse) who come together on a regular basis to help individual students succeed in school and to use plan services for particular groups of students in a coordinated fashion. Many people consider helping families, teachers, and other school staff to better support individual students to be the SIT's primary function. This function is accomplished through a structured staffing process focusing on assessing the strengths and needs of a specific student, including his or her support system, and designing collaborative strategies to build on the strengths in order to address the areas of concern. The specific services "staffed" out of the Intervention Team may be a referral to outside services for counseling or medical services, an informal accommodation plan, a referral to the 504 Accommodation Coordinator (for a formalized plan), or a referral to Special Education.

For more information regarding the SIT process, contact SIT Coordinator, Marla Stewart, at 206-252-6221.
