SHORT FILM PRODUCTION

This is your final project of the sememster and is an opportunity to showcase your very best work. You will work with a team to produce a 5-10 minute movie that tells a story. The story must have well developed characters and a complete plot. You may choose any story that you like as long as it has not been made into a movie the past 10 years. You may also create a movie based on an original story.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Your Movie must meet the following basic requirements:

• a plot with a beginning, climax and resolution
• two or more developed characters
• at least 5 minutes in length
• opening and closing credits
• effective use of music and sound effects
• great camerawork and editing
• have props, costumes and a creative set design
• feature at least 2 locations (not FHS hallways!!!)
• be appropriate for the school audience

Your group must:

• use all class time effectively
• choose the best people for jobs
• have job for all members
• work cooperatively

BASIC TIMELINE

WEEK 1: scriptwriting and storyboarding, finding resources, set design
WEEK 2: production and basic editing
WEEK 3: post production and showing

Your grade for this project will be based on the following criteria:

Concept is creative and original
Story is school appropriate
Good use of setting, costumes, props
Strong on-camera performance
Story has clear beginning, middle, and end
Footage is well-composed and stable
Many different shot types are included
Editing is smooth---no jump cuts or cut-outs
Appropriate music is added w/ balanced sound
Titles and credits complete
Transitions and effects enhance the video
Group stayed on task all days
Video is “BEST WORK” of the semester
