PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS

BASIC EXPECTATIONS

For this video, you will produce a 30 OR 60 second Public Service Announcement that has a positive social message. You will need to incorporate some basic elements of advertising into your work. You can keep this simple or get as complex and creative as you want. Minimum expectations for this video are:

• A well-designed graphic with logo
• A slogan
• Use of one or more advertising technique
• Exactly 30 or 60 seconds
• Use of voice over
• Effective use of transitions and effects
• Wide variety of video footage and images

Extra things you may want to include or do for extra credit:

• Print or radio ads
• a jingle
• any work on the advertising unit on website

PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS

• Choose an idea that you can easily shoot here at school--here are some suggestions:
  • anti-bullying message
  • pro-reading message
  • anti-drugs or alcohol
  • recycling
  • internet safety

SHOOTING TIPS

• Rewind your tape before starting
• Get front and back porch
• Get more than one take so when editing you have choices
• Get some reaction shots and cover shots
• Shoot opening and closing stand-ups at the same time

EDITING REMINDERS

• Be sure to save in the Movies folder on the harddrive
• Name your project appropriately before editing----topic_PSA#
• Do not edit in other peoples projects!!!
• Ask for help when you need it

Complete slate with 2 seconds of black      
Message is clear and positive  
Logo/graphics well designed

Editing is clean with good use of transitions

Strong/complete group presentation   
PSA is 30/60 seconds exactly
