VIDEO PROJECT: The Interview
BASIC EXPECTATIONS
For this video, your
on-air talent will have the job of interviewing one or more other group
members. You may choose to do this as a studio interview or a field interview.
Minimum expectations for
this video are:
- 2 minutes or more in
length
- Interview focused on one
topic
- Needs to have a
conversational feel
- Use 4 or more shot types (at
least 12 shots total)
- Sub-titles for guests
- Simple opening title and
credits
Extra things you may
want to include:
- Fancy Opening sequence
with music
- Multiple guests
- Support footage
- Monologue or entertainment
PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS
- What style will your interview be done in?
- Who is being interviewed---what is the main
topic of the interview?
- Go through your questions---are they designed to
get the subject talking?
- Where will you shoot, what will the set look
like?
- What will you do if you have to reshoot to avoid having different outfits?
SHOOTING TIPS
- Rewind your tape before starting
- Get front and back porch
- Get more than one take of the interview,
especially questions and opening
- Get some reaction shots and cover shots (b-roll)
INTERVIEWING TIPS
- Ask open ended questions
- Be a good listener and ask follow up questions
- Have knowledge of your guest and topic so that
you know what to probe for
- Have an unknown or
surprise element
EDITING REMINDERS
- Be sure to save in the Movies folder on the hard drive
- Name your project appropriately before
editing (INT3_topic)
- Do not edit in other peoples projects!!!
- Ask for help when you need it

GRADING RUBRIC CRITERIA
Interview/Dialog has conversational feel
Lines well-known and delivered w/ expression
Footage is well-composed w/limited movement
At least 10 shots/4 different types
Video clips are edited down to best parts
Sound is clear and free from background noise
Titles/credits are included w/ music
4 or more transitions including fade in/out
Video is 2 minutes or more
All group members did jobs/used time well
