4x4 VIDEO PROJECT: The News Story

BASIC EXPECTATIONS

For this video, your on-air talent will have the job of reporting a news story with one or more other group members being interviewed as witnesses, subjects, experts, etc. Your story may be real news rewritten form the paper or internet, school news, entertainment news or even made-up stories. Minimum expectations for this video are:

Clear beginning and end by reporter
Steady camera shots with good composition
Variety of supporting footage(at least 3 different images)
Sound bites from 2 sources
Titles used effectively throughout
Transitions throughout, but not overused

Extra things you may want to do:

Produce for Eagle Eye news
Anchor introduction
Pictures/video from internet/TV
Real stories may be on Eagle Eye News if good enough
Graphics from Photoshop, Flash or PPT

PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS

What is your story?
Who will you interview? What will you ask them?
What would be good shots for supporting footage?
Research about your topikc to get more information?
What are things from your last video you want to improve upon?

SHOOTING TIPS

Rewind your tape before starting
Get front and back porch
Get more than one take so when editing you have choices
Get some reaction shots and cover shots
Shoot opening and closing stand-ups at the same time

NEWSWRITING TIPS

Keep your story short and simple
Be sure the story covers the 5 W's and H
Have a simple, basic format that you stick to
Be neutral; avoid bias and opinions by the reporter and present both sides

EDITING REMINDERS

Be sure to save in the Movies folder on the harddrive
Name your project appropriately before editing
Do not edit in other peoples projects!!!
Ask for help when you need it

Days 1-3: Intro to news, Watch samples; Choosing topics

Days3-4: Planning and Writing stories and rehearsing

Days 5-6: Shooting interviews and supporting footage, finding theme music, getting supporting pictures

Days 7-8: Finish shooting, start editing video

Days 8-9: Finish editing, add, transitions, titles and effects

Day 10: Watch and Evaluate
